Has the US mutated into a socialist welfare state?
Has the US mutated? I can understand how attempts could be made by congress because anything can get in there by what ever a district elects to represent them… Good examples of this would be Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and much more. However, the greatest travesty is placed squarely upon the judicial system. The judicial system has swung far to the left, they legislate from the bench instead of what they are SUPPOSED to do, which is interpret the constitution. So far the nation is still hanging together, it is unknown just how long though. It may just break apart. A prediction by a KGB agent, Igor Panarin, may be of interest to read.
Here is a good example of the Supreme Court upholding socialism. They ruled that Socialist Security was constitutional.

.
"Always wondering" is a classic example of a socialist liberal extremest. Rants like these are absolute proof that this nation is in perilous times.

Uh uh. Mutation suggests it happened either randomly or in response to stimuli. The move towards more & more govt control has been an ongoing process…for decades.

We gave the keys to the treasury up.

They spent all there was.

They even spent money that belongs to people who haven’t been born yet.
There’s no end in sight. They’re still spending and, so far, we’ve got nothing for it.
JimSock | Nov 18, 2009

The US has long been a mixture of socialistic and capitalistic programs and policies, as have the rest of the industrialized nations of the world and for the most part it’s worked pretty well. What is more concerning about the US it that that mutation that you’ve noticed is more into a corporate conglomerate state where corporations have began to have more power and influence than the people or even the government itself.
ndmagicman | Nov 18, 2009

With all the Liberal entitlement programs passed by the Democrats has made the US a Nanny State!! Barney Franks is the #1 person to thank for this as well as the downfall of the economy with is BS about Fannie and Freddie not being in trouble! Repugs raised the questions three different times during the past 10 years and Franks, Dodd and the rest of these bastards covered the problems up just to keep the lower income class voting for them! And who is the majority of lower income class, those who are Liberlal and vote Democrat.

Welcome to the United Welfare States of America!!
Freedom Wins | Nov 18, 2009

How?

Do you have any examples? Aside from citing a KGB AGENT as your source.

Don’t you realize these sort of statements have no basis in fact and only solidify how extreme the Republican party has become.

Your witch hunt is unAmerican.

C’mon you even admitted you admire a KGB agent. Igor Panarin is a STALIN supporter! YOU are scary.
Just another account | Nov 18, 2009

No, but I’d like to see proof if you’re going to try to make that argument. Get a grip on things for a moment: just because someone you don’t like is in office doesn’t mean the U.S. is going to be turned into a welfare state.

What do you think my riding ability is?
Be perfectly frank, I know I can always work to be better, but I have never asked this of anyone before. I also know thats its not what you have done - its what you can do, and soon I’ll post a video of myself riding and you can judge off of that. But I’ll give you my life history and what I have done thus far - to this very night, you can say from there. Honestly - I would prefer people that are in the horse world that can rightfully judge rather then people inking for a few points. I am looking for riding ability, but am giving you my horselife history. To make sure I get genuine answers, please respond WHY you chose the ability that you did.

So here it is, I have been riding for 13 years. I am currently 24. I did not start when I was a 2 year old tied down in someones saddle. No, I started by going to science camps focused on horses, learning the biology of them. Then off to 8 years of lessons in english - 6 of which were of hard core english training. The "ride with a whip behind your back until your elbows get in the right place" abuse sort of thing.

I have been without lessons or training (besides what I have self learned) for 5 years. Within those 5 years I have worked on the ground with horses for 3 of the years teaching therapy riding. I have leased an OTTB which I had to drop the lease since he was deathly afraid of the mounting block and I only got to spend about 30 mins in the saddle with him. Speaking of mounting blocks, I need one. I have one really bad knee, and it happens to be the one thats in the stirrup and just can’t handle that kinda bend to get into the saddle. I can mount in western, but english poses some difficulties. I have been riding partners and done trail rides with people with their horses.I also lease a TWH, who I spent all of last summer training her for the cue to canter. Yes, I know some TWH don’t canter - but she does, she just didn’t have a cue for it. I picked up exercising other peoples horses through word of mouth, one woman told me she liked the way I handled Ebby (TWH) and I was recommended by the woman I leased from to her friends.

I ride both on the trails, in the arena, english is what I have the most training in, I don’t jump except if its over trail hazards. I know dressage, but don’t often utilize it, I can lunge a horse. but I can also ride western with neck reins. I thrive off of setting a goal and completing it. I have shown once, didn’t like it. I can use leg cues, I can sit and post a trot, with stirrups, without, bareback, though, posting bareback is just an oxymoron. I feel more comfortable when a horse is acting up and bucking to be bareback then to be in a saddle. If I come off, I’m back on.

Currently I am in college - which means, I can’t afford to pay to lease or ride a well behaved horse. So it leads to me doing exercise riding around school. At first it was bit diffcult to find places to ride at, so I worked for the therapy riding and a horse rescue, but now in my third year, I actually have an option and riding facilities and horses to choose from. Who knew a horseless rider could go from no horse to too much horse and no time.

Last year it was green broke 3 year olds, and weekly we took them out on the trails and rode them through scary situations. This year it was Friesians who got blue ribbons while driving but were hardly rode, and now that its gotten colder I have had to move to less pampered horses and I ride those that have only been rode a few times this year, and those who have gotten away with little kids.

Which brings me to today - I work specifically with the most misbehaved out of the bunch, a bucky haflinger, who will buck and kick whenever she doesnt want to go. She is also overweight to the point that no saddle fits her since he withers are missing entirely. So, I ride her bareback. When she bucks and kicks its easier for me to sit them out. She has only entirely lost me twice, once when I was hopping on from the ground, and I biffed and landed funny, she ran and bucked and I came off with a hoof in my leg (good thing not my head, which my helmet was attached to) The other time was tonight - when I as so sore from working with others horses that when she took off I decided to bail and just lunge her instead. So what about these other horses? The woman that I am riding for had some unexpected teenagers come and ride - but they claimed that they all have had years and years of experience, but the horses couldn’t see this, so the owner asked me to work out the horses so the girls could see how its done, mind you they were little s**ts, and a few of them kicked up a fuss and one bucked. After three hours of that I got back to my little project and I just was dead, but got to eat home made chilli and now am in bed with this question racking at my brain.

to sum it up. I have rode a variety of horses, up to this point in the year I have rode 26 horses All with different training abilities, styles, ages, an
bareback details: can canter also sitting bareback, can manage bareback on trails in all gaits.

Wow, you are a pretty good rider. I would say you are in the "advanced/experineced" category. You have been riding for a long time, ridden many kinds of horses, worked with difficult horses, and have actually taken lessons.
One Bad A$$ Mistake America | Nov 21, 2009

I would say that you are certainly an experienced rider. Does that make you an advanced rider? Well, it would depend on who you ask. It sounds like you are good at riding difficult horses, and have a good seat. But do you have the formal schooling to ride a horse that’s highly trained in any discipline and get the best performance out of him?

Everything is relative. In a more formal lesson setting, you might not be considered an advanced rider. For example, at the dressage barn where I ride, you really are not considered an advanced rider until you are riding at least 3rd level competitively. You say that you "know dressage," but I don’t know if you can ride at that level. Then again, I doubt any of the upper level dressage riders at the barn would be brave enough to ride their horses bareback at all, much less canter and go out on trails bareback. So who’s really the "advanced" one?

I had a peroneal nerve entrapment surgery in August 2009. Now it hurts again, anyone know what's wrong?
I hurt my ankle in Jan last year and my knee in March. The doctors at my university could not figure it out but when I went home for the summer I saw some really good sports docs who told me that my peroneal nerve was entrapped. After going to physical therapy all summer, taking prednisone, and trying a nerve block (which worked for 2 days and then the pain came back) I decided to get a nerve decompression surgery on my knee.

6 weeks after the surgery (the time the docs said), I started biking. I biked for 2 weeks and then started short jogging workouts and increased over time. My ankle was hurting a little with the running but not the way it did before the surgery and it didn’t hurt when the ankle was taped. However, my knee and my ankle have been hurting a lot when i lay down.

On Monday I had my first faster workout with short accelerations (start slow and increase into a faster run). It hurt a little during the workout but not that much. On Tuesday my ankle hurt to walk and this continued through Thursday, decreasing each day. I have not run since Monday. I saw my school sports doctor on Tuesday and she put me on voltaren but had no idea what the problem was and is sending me to our other sports doctor who I doubt will know either. Does anyone have any idea what this might be???

Today, walking a lot will make it hurt, but what hurts the most right now is staying still. If I stop moving I get a sharp aching in my ankle and some aching through my knee. The knee hurt on the outside back and the ankle hurts on the outside above the bone that sticks out right on the fibula.

Please help! It hurts when I lay down and is keeping me awake at night. I am a student and I really need to sleep because I’ve been sleeping through all my classes for the past 3 weeks.

When you are lying down in a straight position or standing still, you are putting the peroneal nerve (which is a branch off the sciatic nerve) on tension. Tensioning a nerve for a prolonged period of time will deprive it of blood. Surely, it needs to be mobilized, but with intermittent stresses rather than a prolonged tension. Try keeping your knee slightly bent and prevent your low back from curling out as if the fetal position when you are sleeping. Lay on the unaffected side if that is more comfortable with your back straight.

I can’t say this is your solution for sure, but this is what I’d start with.

Can I get into Syracuse University?
I am currently a junior in high school and have already started the whole "stress process" that I’m sure all juniors have gone through. My question is: Do I have a good chance of getting accepted into Syracuse University?

Let me start out by giving you the facts:

I am a Chinese-American female, fluent in 2 languages (English and Mandarin) and currently learning a 3rd language, German.

Out of the 16 classes that I’ve completed, I have gotten 6 A’s, 8 B’s, and 2 C’s. (I have never failed a class.) I have completed a total of 8 honors classes. So in other words, all my main courses have been honors. I have never taken a regular class. This year (junior year), I am taking 3 AP courses and the rest are all honors.

I am in National German Honor Society, German Club, Chamber Ensemble (the most elite choir in our school), NJROTC, and Voices Activated. I was in the school musical last year and am also planning to participate this year. I also have leadership positions in NJROTC.

I know that the journalism school is extremely competitive and hard to get into so I’ve decided to major in history my freshman year and hopefully transfer majors my sophomore year. In other words, I’ll want to be going in as a history major.

I will be taking the SAT soon.

So, what do you think my chances are just based on this information?
(Your help and input is much appreciated. I would also love some tips on getting in. Words of encouragement would also be great!)

Thanks in advance :)

You did not give enough information to adequately estimate your chances. The average Syracuse admission GPA is 3.6. You do not have a SAT score as yet or mention any extracurricular activities.

See the information below about Syracuse University.

Is Liguria a good place to go on a summer holiday?
Is there nice beaches in the area?
Also, is Genova a nice place to visit too?

Is there any other locations that you recommend near these destinations that are worth a visit?
We are looking for: Beaches, sea, history, architecture etc.

Thank you!

x

Liguria is very nice, especially places like Alassio, Portofino, Rapallo…etc. Also obvious places like Cinque Terre.

BUT!!!!

The beaches are quite small and it’s very expensive to spend a day on the beach. In most places you have to ‘rent’ a parasol and deckchair (about 15 Euro per day). The free beach space is very limited in each town. I find it a very claustrophobic place to spend a holiday. Many people from Milan, Turin and other cities have second houses in Liguria and go there at weekends from May onwards making parking a nightmare and the beaches packed.

Genova is a big port city. The historical centre is worth a visit, but I wouldn’t go there looking for a beach.

Depends on the area… Cinque Terre are beautiful. They are: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore. Portofino is beautiful, too.

I don’t like Genova. I suggest only its aquarium. It isn’t a great place for beaches and sea.

I prefer Tuscany or Riviera Romagnola (Emilia-Romagna).
In Tuscany, you could choose a place near the see and near some great cities. So you can stay to the seaside and have some daily trip (going by train) in Pisa, Siena ect.
However, as for Romagna, you could go in Rimini, Milano Marittima…

For holidays.. from Bordighera (west) to Lerici (east) almost all little cities on coast are holiday’s places. Into Genova city there is the port for a long part so for beaches is not the best (also for Savona and LaSpezia i think) but out of industrial zones you can find nice places. It would be nice to visit also SanRemo (flowers city), Bordighera, Alassio.. and other

honestly, the Liguria region is not very good if you are looking to go to the beach only because it is quite rocky in most spots. a good area in northern italy to go to the beaches would be to go to Tuscany (along the coast obvioulsy) or visit the Emilia Romagna region near Ravenna and Rimini, there is plenty of architecture, history, and beaches….
maybe consider visiting central italy and going to the Abruzzo region, its rich in all of the aspects ur looking for.

It is absolutely crap!

Im a Christian and even i think your poem is plain wrong in some areas…you do need to read the Word more and pray that God helps you in those weak areas…youre not supposed to be talking down on people, Jesus loves everyone, God is love…you should lay off the poem typing and study the Word more.

I don’t like your poem at all.

I prefer one that is almost its opposite:

If you really do yearn to partake of the Light, find out why this poem is so badly received by your fellow man. Go line by line.

I think the rhythm is catchy and somewhat clever in it’s contrivance but some of it is also offensive.

What do you think of my STORY?
A young man and a purple unicorn sat in a peaceful, sunny meadow. John held the unicorn’s sturdy horn in one hand, admiring the perfect spirals. The other hand carefully plucked stray white hairs that had a habit of getting stuck in the horses eyelashes and muzzle. Finished, he petted the beast’s velvet nose and it smiled.
"Did you have the dream again last night?" asked the unicorn.
John hesitated, then said, "Well, it was different this time. A lot longer, and less dreamlike. I’d have a hard time telling why it wasn’t a dream, other than being awake now. I was in the same little room though, with the bed and the little window on the door with the metal in it."
"Did you see the lady again, with the eyes?"
"Yeah, a black lady with blue eyes! Isn’t that something? She’s real friendly though, I wish I could say something to her but I can never come up with the words. She’s just a dream person though, so I guess it doesn’t really matter."
"Is that her standing behind you right now?"
John looked over his shoulder and with a fright saw the very same lady. He pulled back, into the corner of the room, onto the bed. He focused on his chewed, bleeding fingernails and tried to ignore her. The meadow was gone, the walls of the room were painfully closed in. The unicorn had been reduced to a mere whisper in his ears, reassuring him with nothing more than ‘it’s ok John’ over and over.
"No one is here but me John. There’s nothing to be afraid of." The lady’s soothing voice won over John’s fear and he relaxed. "Who were you talking to?"
"The unicorn."
"There is no unicorn John. That was just a hallucination."
"How do I know you’re real?"

i am intrigued, and a bit disturbed— more?
